Abstract:
Against the backdrop of global attention to climate change and green, kow-carbon development, the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China emphasized the importance of “actively and prudently advancing carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.” Currently, promoting the “dual carbon” initiative has become an urgent task to meet the people’s needs, promote economic structural transformation, and fulfill the responsibilities of a major country. This strategic imperative has prompted us to conduct in-depth research on the relationship between Renewable Energy Technology Innovation (RETI) and the development of green manufacturing industries,
This study is based on panel data from 30 provinces in China from 2004 to 2022, and employs methods such as the Fully Modified Ordinary Least Squares (FMOLS), Feasible Generalized Least Squares (FGLS), and Instrumental Variable-Generalized Method of Moments (IV-GMM) for baseline regression and robustness tests, focusing on exploring the effects of different types of RETI on the green development of the manufacturing industry, and examining the moderating role of intellectual property protection in this relationship. The results indicate that enhancing RETI levels contributes to promoting the green development of manufacturing industries, with particularly significant effects observed in innovations related to hydroelectric, solar, marine, and geothermal technologies. As intellectual
property rights protection intensifies, the impact of RETI on the green development of manufacturing industries becomes more pronounced. Heterogeneity analysis further reveals the influence of geographical location on the impact of RETI on the green development of manufacturing industries, especially in regions with high energy self-sufficiency and in eastern areas. Therefore, this study not only contributes to understanding the importance of renewable energy technology innovation under China’s carbon peaking strategy but also provides important reference for formulating relevant policies.
