Abstract:
The Silk Road on the Grassland refers to the commercial corridor connecting the Mongolian steppe with Eurasia, and its formation, development and prosperity represent a glorious period of China’s history. After the establishment of Liao Dynasty by the Khitans, the grassland Silk Road reached unprecedented prosperity, which opened a window for economic and cultural exchanges between the Central Plains and Asian and European countries. The Economic and cultural exchange between the East and the West during the Liao Dynasty through the Grassland Silk Road was multifaceted in content. Of particular note is the export of textiles such as Chaoxia brocade and Lingluoqi brocade. The textile industry in the Liao Dynasty was very developed, and there were many distinctive textile production areas in the area. Even Song Dynasty merchants purchased a large amount of Luo produced by the Liao Dynasty, known as “Fanluo”, which was considered a rare commodity in the Song Dynasty. Liao’s textiles were a major product of communication between Liao and the West, which made the transportation route from Liao to the West a true “Grassland Silk Road”.
