Abstract:
As the world’s leading player in the semiconductor industry, especially in the Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) market, Japan gained the nickname “DRAM Kingdom” in the latter part of the 1980s and the early 1990s. Nevertheless, Japan’s semiconductor industry has gone from a boom to a bust since the early 1990s, entering what is widely known as the “Lost 30 Years,” due to the revival of American semiconductor companies and the rapid rise of semiconductor firms in South Korea and Taiwan, (China. In recent years, the Japanese government has mereasingly recognized the strategic importance of the semiconductor industry. It has implemented numerous measures support to its development and invested substantial funds to revive its former glory. However, the author remains skeptical about the prospects of a successful resurgence.
